Sebastian Braun, Violoncello
Born 1990 in Winterthur, he is a highly sought after cellist, especially for chamber music. He is frequently invited to play recitals and chamber music concerts in numerous festivals and concert series such as the Lucerne Festival, the Schleswig-Holstein Festival, the Ludwigsburger Schlossfestspiele, at the Swiss Chamber Music Festival Adelboden, Label Suisse Festival, the Cairo Jazz Festival and at the Maison de la Radio Paris. He was a member of the Gustav Mahler Youth Orchestra, the Sinfonieorchester Basel and was playing as a solo cellist with orchestras like Kammerorchester Basel, Chamber Academy Basel and “Chaarts” Chamber Artists.
He appears regularly as a Soloist inter alia with the Sinfonieorchester Basel under the baton of Lorenzo Viotti, the Sinfonietta Basel, with the Kammerphilharmonie Chur, the Chamber Academy Basel, the Ensemble Diagonal under Jürg Henneberger and with the Northern Symphony Orchestra St. Petersburg.
Sebastian Braun is a Member of the Kaleidoscope String Quartet and the Trio Eclipse, with whom he received awards at the International Chamber Music Competition Osaka, at the Orpheus Swiss Chamber Music Competition and at the Migros Kulturprozent Chamber Music Competition. In 2016 he has been awarded the first price at the Domnick International Cello Competition in Stuttgart.
He studied with Conradin Brotbek at University of Arts in Bern and at the Stuttgart University of Music and completed a master’s degree with honours at Basel Academy of Music, where he studied with Thomas Demenga.
Thanks to a generous loan, he plays a cello built in 1692 by Carlo Giuseppe Testore.
