Gertrud Weinmeister, Viola

was born in Salzbug where she grew up in an familiy of musicians. Her studies took her from the Mozarteum in Salzburg to the Universityof Music and Performing Arts Vienna as well as the Northern Illinois University in DeKalb, USA.As a member of the Trio Weinmeister, in which she plays the viola, she has performed at the Alte Oper Frankfurt, the Philharmonie Köln, the Musikhalle Hamburg, the concert halls of Stockholm, Vienna and Brussels, the Concertgebouw Amsterdam, the Athens Concert Hall, the Birmingham Symphony Hall and also as part of the International Beethoven Festival in Bonn.


Due to her love for chamber music she soon made a name for herself in this field and was in high demand as partner of various prestigious festivals including Wien Modern, the Schlesweig-Holstein Music Festival, the Schwetzingen Festival, the Musiktage Mondsee, the Ravinia Festival (USA) and the Lockenhaus Chamber Music Festival. As a member of the Hugo Wolf Quartett she extensively toured the USA as well as South America and produced numerous CD recordings.


She appeared as soloist with such orchestras as the Mozarteum Orchestra Salzburg, the Staatskapelle Weimar, the Staatsphilharmonie Rheinland Pfalz and the Bielefelder Philharmoniker. For many years Gertrud Weinmeister was solo violist of the Concentus Musicus under the direction of Nikolaus Harnoncourt and also performed with the Chamber Ochester of Europe.


Gertrud Weinmeister is Professor for Viola at the Bern University of the Arts (Musikhochschule Bern) as well as at the Music and Arts University of the City of Vienna (MUK – Musik und Kunst Privatuniversität der Stadt Wien).
